When you have a cold, you may not feel like eating. But, did you know that food can sometimes cure a cold? Certain foods can sooth sore throats, relieve congestion, and even ease a cough. If you're looking for natural remedies to cure your cold, look no farther than your kitchen.

If you're plagued by a stuffy nose, spicy foods may be just what you need to cure your cold. Try adding your favorite hot sauce to soup. As you eat the soup, the spicy from the hot sauce will help to clear your sinuses. Just be sure to have some tissues handy.

If spicy foods aren't your cup of tea, then look no further than your favorite tea. Hot tea will not only cure a stuffy nose, but it can also sooth a sore throat. If you add honey and lemon to your tea, you will also get relief from a persistent cough.

Not everyone likes hot tea, especially children. One food I loved when I was little was hot gelatin. This may not sound appetizing to an adult, but kids love this cold remedy. Just prepare the gelatin mix with hot water and allow it to cool slightly. The gelatin will help cure cold symptoms by coating a sore throat. More importantly, this is a medicine that kids will be more than happy to take. If you're worried about sugar content, get the sugar-free version.

Another food that helps cure a cold is chicken noodle soup. Scientists have actually proven that this food can help cure cold symptoms. The heat from the broth helps cure congestion, while the fat in the broth helps cure a sore throat. Of course, this is also a food that many people remember from their childhood. Food that reminds us of our childhood always helps us to feel better.

If you have a bad cough, why suck on a cough drop that tastes horrible? Instead, why not enjoy a piece of horehound candy? Horehound is an acquired taste, but it's a natural flavor and is much safer than over-the-counter cough drops. If you like, you can use a stick of horehound candy to stir a hot cup of tea. As the horehound melts into the tea, it will become a more palatable way to cure your cold symptoms.

Takeaways
  • Spicy foods can clear nasal congestion.
  • Hot gelatin can coat a sore throat.
  • Horehound candy is great for coughs.

By eating well most of the time we can avoid many of the colds from getting a chance at partying inside our bodies. When we do get a bunch of symptoms we can use many of your things mentioned. We like potato chips for the salting of our throats when sore. It seems to help us. Good article!

These are great suggestions, especially the tea with honey and lemon. I also like to add some whiskey to my tea when I am not feeling well and that really works well for me. Sophie
