Stress in the workplace is not an uncommon thing. We have all experienced it at least once. Worrying about completing work tasks in a timely manner, dealing with unruly customers, and having your work critiqued by the boss are all situations that cause stress. Some of the most stressful jobs have the highest turnover rates. It is extremely hard to keep someone working in a position that constantly causes them to pull out their hair. The productivity level of the company greatly suffers if all of the employees are under large amounts of stress. As a business owner, you should consider taking some steps to reduce the stress of your employees. Not only do you want your business to thrive, but you should want your employees to do the same. With a few suggestions, you can start reducing employee stress and make everyone much happier to be at work. Reduce work hours- One of the most common contributors to workplace stress is long work hours. Employees are constantly hounded by upper management to spend most of the work day at the office. Although some companies may think that this will make the employee more productive, it really does not. Eventually the work will begin to suffer because the employee has become overworked. Many companies have become extremely productive because they have set up guidelines for reasonable work hours. Allow employees to take necessary breaks and time off. They will have a tendency to do a better job once they feel refreshed.
Listen to their feedback- Most employees that feel that their employer does not value their opinion will not want to do their best. Stress will definitely build up in employees that feel devalued or unimportant. Take the time to listen to employees' suggestions and then implement changes that will be beneficial to them. The stress level will decrease tremendously in the workplace if employees feel as though they matter. Business owners that show employees that they also contribute to the success of the business will gain long lasting employees. They will not quit so easily and cause a high turnover rate.
