Egg decorating is one of the most creative ways to celebrate the Easter holiday. While some stick to pastel colors in their decorating, eggs can be designed in whatever pattern or color that suits your fancy. These adorable orange floral decoupage eggs are so simple to make, and look perfect paired with other matching vintage floral eggs in an antique white basket. For this project, you will need:
- 3 inch Styrofoam eggs (found in craft stores or online at Save On Crafts)
- Anna Griffin "Sloan Coral Climbing Vine" Print Paper (found in stores or online at Paper Addict)
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Mod Podge or other decoupage medium
- Craft knife
- Self healing mat
- Sponge brush
- Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Totally Tangerine
- Toothpicks
- Elmer's "Ready Spack" Acrylic Spackling Compound (found in craft stores)
- Fine grit sandpaper
- Glossy acrylic finishing spray
- Paper cups
- Newspaper
Due to the use of chemical glues and spray paints, this project is best completed in a newspaper covered outdoor workspace.
Stick a toothpick in each end of the three inch Styrofoam egg. With your fingers, gently apply a generous amount of Elmer's "Ready Spack" Acrylic Spackling Compound to the foam egg. Using the toothpicks as "handles" to elevate the egg, place the egg in a paper cup to dry overnight.
Gently sand the egg with medium grit sandpaper until it is smooth. Apply one to two coats of Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in Totally Tangerine to the egg and allow it to set (once again) in the paper cup until it is dry.
Lay the Anna Griffin "Sloan Coral Climbing Vine" print paper flat on the self healing mat. Measure with the ruler and mark with the pencil 1/4 inch wide strips. Cut out the strips using the craft knife.
