We saw it happen with Invasion, Surface and other shows we have watched faithfully and have grown to love. When our favorite shows are canceled, it can be devastating to the many fans who love these characters and keep a watchful eye on their every move from week to week. We laugh with them, cry with them and come to feel as though we know them in a strange sort of way.

Like many, I was an avid fan of Invasion and was furious at its cancellation. The last cliffhanger episode left fans everywhere wondering about the fate of Larken and her unborn child. Fans deserve better than this. If a show can't be saved or brought back then a made for TV movie or mini-series that ties up the loose ends would be appropriate to give fans a sense of finality and satisfaction.

Another fan favorite has been added to the long list of cancellations. I immediately fell in love with The 4400 right from its debut and have been an dedicated fan ever since. The 4400, a show about a group of people who were abducted and then returned with new abilities, ran for four seasons and was canceled at the end of 2007. Fans of The 4400 have been outraged by the cancellation of a show once referred to as a blockbuster hit. Although the announcement that The 4400 has been canceled was made in December 2007 by co-creator Scott Peters die hard fans have mounted a campaign to resurrect The 4400.

Fans are protesting the cancellation of The 4400 with online petitions, letters and even sunflower seeds. Network executives are being bombarded with the seeds in an attempt to save The 4400 television series. Sunflower seeds are a favorite snack of one of the show's characters, Dr. Kevin Burkhoff played by Jeffrey Combs and the campaign is modeled after one used with peanuts to save the show Jericho. Will these efforts save The 4400? It's hard to say. The efforts of loyal fans worked for Jericho but efforts to save other fan favorites in the past such as Invasion have not met with success.

This is one of the many reasons I no longer watch network TV---haven't for many years. The wrong series almost always get cancelled, usually because they aren't the right "formula", which means the sponsors are reluctant to put their ads on them and they become expendable. People faithfully watching the shows' ending credits are aware that a large portion of the dramatic series out there are coming from only two sources. Hollywood is becoming as closed a society as professional wrestling, and having had attempts in both, I can vouch for the comparison. Viewer campaigns CAN work, however, as was proven by Star Trek, and more recently, Jericho.
