This Valentine's Day might be a special one for me. Not because I'm going to blow a lot of money over some lovely lady and go out of my way to boost her self-esteem. V-Day, 2008 is not going to be special for me because I have a case of beer and something to lament to my friends about. This year's Valentine's Day is going to be special because, in all of my 23 years on this earth, I can say that I've never learned a lesson quite like this. It came this weekend, Friday, to be exact, February 8th, 2008, around 4:30 or 5pm.

I hate working on Friday. I hate working on Monday and Tuesday, too, and the rest of the week isn't that fantastic either. But I'm a grownup now, working in the real world, behind a desk, shuffling papers, sometimes marking things to remember later. The special times in each day usually revolve around when I get to make a new cup of tea.

When 4:30 came, I was more than ready to go. Myra, my boss, said, "Take off, I'm sure you have plans for the weekend." I dug through my employee mailbox, adding a couple sheets of paper which would remind me of my most immediate duties to take care of Monday morning. I almost walked away, and sometimes I think if I would have, the outcome would have been better. But chance takes over in situations like these, and once a color, a shape, a movement catches your eye, you're hooked, for better or worse. Curiosity killed the cat, as they say, and humans usually fare no better.

There is little long content I read on AC but this piece and your writing skills increasingly entertain. What a great story and I can so relate to how you handle some things, such as "Most dilemmas and uncomfortable situations I let go and refuse to handle until they are so far behind me...." Ah well, and from now on don't discount older women. ;-)

Although I don't really like V-day, I really liked your article. It was funny and thought-provoking. Thank you for your kind comments too.
