For the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences pulled out all the stops to celebrate the best of music's past, present and future. Alicia Keys, looking quite elegant in a green evening gown, opened the show and set the tone by singing a duet with a recorded image of Frank Sinatra. "To appear on the Grammy Awards is to duet with history," Keys said.

Prince, while presenting the award for "Best Female R&B Performance," muttered under his breath that "Frank Sinatra looked good for 150."

Cher, while introducing Beyonce and Tina Turner: "As many of you know, I started singing when Lincoln was President."

Accepting the Best Country Album Grammy from Ringo Starr, Vince Gill said "I just got an award given to me by a Beatle. Have you had that happen yet, Kanye?"

Vince Gill: "Music is the real place where Democracy lives. Every note is equal."

Usher, while reading the nominees for Album of the Year: "Remember, there are no losers in this category, Kanye."

Memorable Musical Performances at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards

Wearing 1940's-style suits, the original members of the Time reunited onstage to perform "Jungle Love."

Beyonce and Tina Turner performed a high-powered duet of "Proud Mary" that brought down the house.

2008 MusiCares Person of the Year Aretha Franklin showed why she is still the Queen of Soul (MusiCares is a charitable organization that provides financial support to people attached to the music industry)

Ringo Starr and the Beatles Were Fab at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards

George Martin and his son Giles won the Grammy for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album for "Love," a remix of some of the best Beatles' tunes that was used for a Cirque du Soleil show. George Martin was the producer of the Beatles albums between 1962 and 1969. "My name is Ringo and a long time ago we made these albums," Ringo Starr said after he joined Martin and his son on stage.
