Mercersburg, Pennsylvania is a Great Place to Learn to Snowboard

When my cousin decided to visit us in early February, I was eager to find something that I thought she (a Briton) would really enjoy. Since sightseeing was not something either of us cared to do again, I vowed to give her a uniquely American experience. Since Brits aren't usually known for their snowboarding skills, I figured that snowboarding at Whitetail Resort would be the way to go. My idea proved to be a brilliant one: snowboarding, along with the beginner's course at Whitetail Resort, was completely awesome. I have been giving myself kudos ever since.

Traveling to Whitetail Resort

Whitetail Resort is located just inside of southern Pennsylvania. The drive from DC to the resort takes about an hour and a half. The trip to Whitetail is, for the most part, a beautiful one: a quiet drive spanning miles of Maryland farmland. Oddly, there are zero signs for Whitetail Resort, so watch your directions closely. Particularly as you near the end of the trip. The last 5 miles span desolate, country lanes. Creepy, rundown shacks litter the backwoods countryside. For the imaginative, the last leg can be an apprehensive one. Don't second guess yourself, though. Before long, Whitetail's snowy mountain appears, like a beacon of hope.

Beginner's Snowboarding Course at Whitetail Resort: Gear

Whitetail Resort's beginner's snowboarding course provides you with a lift pass, boots and snowboard. You will need to provide the heavy coat, gloves, hat and ski pants. On a warmer day, you can get away with snowboarding in athletic pants and a light jacket, but gloves are always a must. Falling while snowboarding at Whitetail Resort is inevitable. Gloves help soften the blow.

The prices are not as bad as I expected...though they'd charge double for my clumsy arse. Fun article!

How fun! LOL Carol. I think they'd be running from me, too. I've never been skiing or snowboarding. :-)
