Brandon Sanderson, author of Elantris and Mistborn, was chosen in late 2007 to finish Robert Jordan's final Wheel of Time novel, A Memory of Light, following the untimely death of one of the greatest minds in fantasy writing. Currently Brandon is re-reading the Wheel of Time to get a better feel for exactly how the final book will go. Dragonmount, the website founded by Robert Jordan, has details from his wife as well as updates from Brandon himself detailing notes and sundries for the followers of the series to mark his progress as he reads the books.

Robert Jordan's wife, Harriet, has assured fans of the series that Brandon is the perfect man for the job, and that her late husband would approve of the work he will be doing. He is working closely with Alan Romanczuk and Maria Simons, who have worked with Mr. Jordan on a number of his other books, as well as with Harriet herself overseeing things.

The Wheel of Time is perhaps the most well-known and best-selling fantasy series of all time, with 11 books so far spanning a period of 20 years by the time book 12 is published by Tor in 2009. Fans of the series number in the millions from all corners of the globe. Combining a brilliant mixture of modern-day themes and multi-cultural diversity, Robert Jordan detailed a world of Light and Shadow and apocalyptic themes woven together with an un-matched skill. A master wordsmith and one of the more prolific writers of our time, his third person limited narrative is perhaps the most descriptive in the history of fantasy, leaving readers with an undeniable sense of living in the shoes of the characters on paper.

While Robert Jordan will be sorely missed by all of his fans, it is a blessing to know that with the help of Mr. Sanderson and the guidance of his wife Harriet the final chapter in his epic tale will be brought to a close.

The Dragon will live on in our hearts.
