Product Review: Toshiba A215-S6814 Laptop Computer

The Toshiba Satellite A215 series of laptop computers has plenty of basic computer user features and some pretty good multimedia additions for a very good home or business computer.

I have reviewed two other Toshiba Satellite laptop computers and have been very happy with their performance and features; I have received another Satellite laptop for reviewing with newer and more up to date features. The Toshiba Satellite A215 is a nice general use or business computer with plenty of features and some good basic software programs.

The addition of Windows Vista Media Center and a few additional niceties like a good sized hard drive, Gigabyte G Wireless network adapter, 5-in-1 Media Card adapter and Webcam makes this a good all around multimedia computer. The Satellite A series of computers can be purchased preconfigured from about $650 up to a very good basic gaming or multimedia model for $1200.

The Satellite series of laptops from Toshiba may not be your fully loaded computers but for the general gaming or basic business they do have plenty of features and some nice power under the hood. The Satellite series ranges from the basic model up the serious gamer version and the A series has the lower end of this general computer line.

Although some of the A series are not capable of full 3D gaming using DirectX 10 and all the benefits of a discreet graphics card instead of on board graphics some of them can. The higher end of the series does have discreet or a separate graphics processor from the motherboards onboard one. A separate graphics processor will be able to process and handle the better graphics of the current 3D games and the Microsoft 3D control program DirectX 10.

The A series laptop I was able to review has a good set of basic features and a very good processor to start with, the AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile processor running at 2.2 GHz. This processor has two cores and can perform operations on two programs running simultaneously without problems especially when using the AMD Dual Core Optimizer program.
