Former Canton police officer Bobby Cutts spoke out to a jury for the first time since the death of his pregnant lover, Jessie Davis, last July. We all heard this story months ago, as a town searched for weeks for the body of Jessie Davis who was nine months pregnant with Cutts' child.

"I didn't mean to hurt her," Cutts said on the witness stand Monday morning. Cutts described the death as a accident, as he testified that during an argument at her home, he pulled his arm away and threw his elbow back, landing on her throat. Davis fell down, Cutts said.

It seems as though he was at her home to pick up their 2-year old son, and an argument ensued. He also stated that he went to get bleach as a way to revive Davis because he thought that she was just knocked out. When that didn't work, he thought he'd look for a pulse, before realizing that she was dead. After removing her body from the home, he then called a friend to help dispose of the body.

Cutts then began to cry on the witness stand, saying he thought "how the hell am i going to explain this." he also continued stating he began thinking, "this is not real, this is not real, it could not be happening. This is a bad dream." Whether or not this was intentional, it was still a crime and should have been reported immediately.

The former Canton officer has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and other charges. Cutts could receive the death penalty if convicted of killing Davis.

This nightmare of a story is all too familiar these days and it takes an extremely open minded person to be a juror. I do believe that I would have an extremely hard time letting go of my personal experiences with police enforcement to look at Bobby Cutts Jr as just a man on trial.

As a law enforcement officer, the best judgment should be used at all times, no matter what the eventual outcome will be. The outcome of course can not be predicted, only assumed. Cutts knew what he would be up against in a case like this.
