Writing Your Wedding Vows
Putting Your Heart on Your Sleeve

Wedding vows are a central part of any wedding ceremony for the witness of intent that they provide to the assembled congregation of friends and relatives and for the revelation of dedication they provide for the couple themselves. Today most faiths permit, even encourage , the bride and the groom to either choose their own wedding vows from a collection of possibilities or , perhaps more dramatically, to write their own wedding vows. Well intentioned couples sometimes jump at the chance to write their own wedding vows only to discover themselves struggling to find just the right words or sentiments to share. Sometimes, for some people, thinking about the vows you hope to write thematically helps to organize and make understandable the many emotions swirling in your heart and mind and meanwhile gives courage to timid pens.
Vows for the Giving of Your Whole Self
Today I am yours fully, completely, totally. Every part of my being I pledge forever to you.
With my eyes I promise to look forward to the bright promise of our future without ever losing sight of the joys of the present.
With my ears I promise to listen with patience, compassion and love to your cares, concerns , hopes and fears.
With my mouth I promise to speak with kindness or hold back from speaking at all rather than cause you pain.
With my mind I promise to dream of good times during bad and hold the thought of our love ever foremost.
With my hands I commit both to building our future and holding on tightly to our happiness.
With my feet I promise to walk courageously and joyfully wherever our path may wind.
With my heart I promise to love you as you wish to be loved, as you need to be loved .
Today I am yours fully, completely, totally as I will be tomorrow and forever.
Vows Over a Lifetime
I promise you today my honest effort to devote every waking hour to the happiness, peace and well being of our life together.
In our youth, I promise to share my energy, enthusiasm and love as we work together to build the foundation for a lifetime of happiness.
