Everywhere you look online there are cheat codes. It does not matter what platform it is and it does not even have to be a video game, there are cheat codes for it. Playstation, Xbox, Wii it does not matter, the cheat codes are out there, they are everywhere. There are even cheat code for Webkinz, (aren't Webkinz those furry little creatures they in to purses for little girls?) why in the world do Webkinz need a cheat code? When you look at the most searched terms, cheat codes is always close to the top.

I guess my biggest concern with this is what is it teaching our children? They can not play a video game without codes to make them jump further, to be invincible, or have the full arsenal of weapons instead of earning them as they go. If we let them use the cheat codes on their video games that have no meaning in their real life experiences, what will the do to be able to win at something that truly matters? When we allow them to use cheat codes on a video game does that mean that it is ok for them to cheat on a test? Does it mean that it is ok to cheat in sports?

I for one do not allow my kids to use cheat codes. Now maybe I am an awful parent because "everyone" does it and "it is just a video game" but I believe that they need to earn the points to buy the car they need to win the race. I believe that they need to be able to work their way to the next level without the help of a cheat code. I believe that the world is not going to end because they have to work at winning the game instead of punching in a code.

Now this is just my opinion (a bit of a rant too, I guess) and you are certainly entitled to yours. Feel free to share them with me in the comments below.

I have to agree with dormetheus. Cheat codes will often change the playing experience and work well for the second time through a game.

I agree and do not allow my children to use them either. However, unfortunately, I think that many parents may not even know because they are not involved enough in their children's lives...then they end up having problems and the parents wonder why?

I think it's cool to use cheats AFTER you beat the game. Otherwise the game isn't fun anymore.

I agree...why cheat? Takes all the fun out of it! You're teaching your kids good values by not cheating.

I'm with you. If you have to cheat, why bother?

I am a Sims2 fanatic and must admit I use some cheat codes, but only for building. I do not use them to progress the game what-so-ever. I agree that games can teach children many things and allowing them to use cheat codes will disillusion the gaming experience.

yeah, what's the point of cheating? it takes away from the learning experience.

I think that it is great that don't want your child to cheat at video games.
