How many times have you received a free CD in the mail and thought what a shame it was to throw it away? If you added up the number of CDs you’ve received since CDs were invented you’d be astounded. It is a shame to throw away the dozens of free CDs that arrive in the mail when there are a number of craft projects and ideas for using old CDs.

Instead of throwing away the free CDs that arrive in the mail, put them to good use. The following craft projects and ideas will enable you to use CDs in a number of creative ways. No one will ever guess your creative crafts ideas started with old CDs that would have otherwise ended up in the trash. Try these creative craft ideas next time you find CDs in your mailbox that you’ll never use.

CD Refrigerator Magnets

If you love refrigerator magnets, this is one of the most creative ideas for using CDs. Simply paint designs of your choice on the blank side of a CD. If you aren’t artistically inclined use stencils to create flowers, vines, geometric shapes, and anything else that will compliment the item you choose for the center.

Glue an item to the center such as a smaller refrigerator magnet, an old broach, a silk flower, or a painted plaster craft item, and complete it by attaching a strong magnet to the back. The options are only limited by your imagination.

Rainbow Suncatcher

Have you noticed how CDs capture and exhibit every color of the rainbow when tilted toward light? Old CDs make fantastic suncatchers, and if you love suncatchers, this is one of the best ideas for putting otherwise worthless CDs to good use.

To create a suncatcher you’ll need ten or twelve old CDs. Glue the labeled sides of two CDs together until you have five or six connected pairs. Super glue is perfect for this project. After the glue has dried completely, carefully drill a small hole near the edges of each pair.
