This week's episode of NBC's hit show, The Biggest Loser, began with contestants flashing back to last week's elimination of Jackie (blue team, mother and son couple). Her son, Dan, understandably was upset that his own team voted to send his mother home, and he had a heart to heart talk with blue team trainer Bob to express his fear of being next in line. Bernie (black team, strangers couple), as last week's Biggest Loser of the Week, got to climb the hill to choose a prize. He chose the Game Play envelope and was rewarded with a card giving him "Fifty percent off at this week's challenge." He later learned that this helped him on the challenge.
Dan made peace with the rest of his blue team in hopes that he would not be the next voted off. Brothers Mark and Jay, and former football teammates Trent and Roger all agreed that they must work as a team to be successful.
For this week's challenge, each team was required to choose two pairs of people. Each pair had to hold suspended over a lake the total amount of weight they have lost so far. The winner of the challenge was given. Bernie's game play prize helped him in that he only had to balance half the weight rather than the entire amount. Paul and Maggie of the black team were the winners of the challenge and won the ability to give immunity to two people; one from their own team and one from the opposing team.
Unable to decide who should get the immunity, the members of the black team drew names to make the decision. Maggie (best friends couple) was the winner, which the rest of the team agreed was probably a good thing for her since her weight loss to date has not been as high as many of the others.
Maggie's talking about her insecurities with her weight and relationships prompted black team trainer Jillian to call in her own mother, a psychotherapist, to help with the participants' mental health. Bob offered to let his blue team members visit with Jillian's mom as well for psychotherapy sessions, but they all agreed as a team to go on an extended uphill hike instead. Trent's knee injury kept him lagging behind the others, but he did make it to the top of the mountain.
