A few months ago I quit using my malfunctioning dishwasher in my rented townhouse apartment, and when I realized the maintenance man wasn't going to do anything to remedy the problem, I was left with half a bottle of liquid dishwasher detergent. I didn't give it away or throw it away. Instead, I've found ways to use it for cleaning purposes inside and outside of my home. Years ago I discovered that dishwasher detergent has a number of great uses, and even when I didn't have a dishwasher I always kept some on hand. Even if you've never had a dishwasher, consider buying dishwasher detergent. It has many great uses outside of the dishwasher. You'll be amazed by how well it works for cleaning jobs in and around the home, and it makes cleaning jobs that are usually difficult much easier than ever.
Stuck on Food
Decades ago when I needed a cleaner to help loosen stuck-on food in a glass baking dish, I instinctively reached for my powdered dishwasher detergent. I sprinkled it in the bottom of the pan lined with baked on black grease and stuck-on food, and I filled it with hot water. After the pan soaked for several minutes, I tried cleaning the pan again. The detergent did a fantastic job to loosen the baked on mess, and amazingly it wiped right off.
Dishwasher detergent can be used to loosen baked on foods from glass and stainless steel pans. Simply fill the pan with very hot water, and add a tablespoon of dishwasher detergent. The longer you let it soak, the easier it will be to remove the baked-on food. Sometimes it just rinses off without any real effort!
Give Your Dishwashing Liquid a Boost
Dishwasher detergent contains bleach, and this is how it helps sanitize dishes washed in the dishwasher. It will also help sanitize dishes in the sink. Leftover detergent meant for a dishwasher can be added to a sink full of dishes and regular dish soap for added cleaning power. It will also soften the water and remove stuck on food much easier than ever, especially if they're allowed to soak for several minutes before washing.
