First you have to think and give an outline to your thoughts on the topic you want to write about.
Lets take a simple example. Suppose you are asked or want to write a short essay/article on how you repaired a fuse that had blown off in your house, in a class or on some website.
Lets outline the procedure first.
1. I switched off the main switch.
2. I took the fuse out from the fuse box.
3. I had some fuse wire and screw driver.
4. I unscrewed the two screws that held the blown out wire and removed it.
5. I took the new fuse wire, twisted it around the first screw and then stretched it to the second screw.
6. I twisted it again around the second screw and tightened up both the screws.
7. I fitted back the repaired fuse in the fuse box.
8. I switched on the main switch and the power came back.
Now these 8 steps highlight the main content of your topic. But are these 8 steps enough for your topic?
Everyone would be writing these steps in their topics. How can you be different from the rest so that your essay or article receives its due attention and appreciation?
Here you have to be a bit more creative and imaginative in your thoughts and writing. You have to divide your topic in a number of short relevant paragraphs and your sentences should be short. If they tend to be long, they should include commas as pauses, in the right places.
You can begin your topic with a situation instead of just starting with the first point. Like:
"I was watching a movie after dinner and suddenly I found myself engulfed in darkness. Everything around me had gone quiet and pitch dark. Soon I realized that the power had gone."
You can make it more expressive...
"I was watching a horror movie after dinner and suddenly I found myself engulfed in darkness. Everything around me had gone quiet and pitch dark. With my thoughts still on the movie, I was a bit terrified. Sitting in my couch, I was motionless and tense for a while. I soon realized that the power had gone."
