Jericho Returns to CBS

Tuesday marked the return of CBS's Jericho. At the end of last season we left the show with the town of Jericho in danger of being destroyed. CBS then canceled the series due to lack of viewers and Jericho fans were enraged. With help from the Nuts for Jericho campaign which sent tons of Nuts to CBS executives, CBS decided to renew Jericho for a half season to wrap up the story. If ratings prove to be good, the series may continue next season as well.

Jericho begins with a flash back sequence showing the defeat of New Bern, a neighboring town which tried to over take Jericho. Not much can be said about the effects of the opening sequence though. Very poor computer generated graphics, but it's to be expected for the budget the show was given.

Many of the previous season's cast members decided to return to complete the series. Conflict between New Bern and Jericho is far from over, and repercussions from the border skirmish are yet to be seen. Anger runs deep for everyone in Jericho in regards to what happened between Jericho and New Bern.

The acting in this season's opener wasn't nearly as great as the previous season. The characters personalities and actions do not seem consistent with the previous season. The newest addition to the cast, Major Beck is hard to read. It's unknown if he can be trusted, and who he may work for. Is Major Beck really there to help or is he dangerous and not to be trusted?

The appeal of Jericho as a town struggling to survive due to being cut off from the rest of the nation, has dropped some now that they have power and television. The lack of these items as well as supplies and fuels made Jericho a show worth watching. Watching the town struggle really made it easy to connect with the people. Perhaps with this new struggle to adjust to a new government, potential for national civil war, and living with the knowledge that New Bern won't be punished for it's crimes will make us reconnect with the characters again.
