The ninth season of Big Brother, the season of "Soul Mates" premiered tonight on CBS. CBS is proud of its "Expect the unexpected" tag line and they played it up big last night when they revealed to the house guests that they each be paired with a soul mate and they would be playing in teams in the first episode titled, "Til Death Do You Part."

What's New on Big Brother 9

Teams

For this season of Big Brother 9, for the first time ever, house guests will be playing as teams. They can be evicted as teams, they vote as teams and one team will win. In keeping with its push towards youth ratings, Big Brother has also decided that these house guests will also have to sleep in the same beds.

Big Brother Matches the Soul Mates on "Til Death Do You Part

Based on the answers to their extensive interviews and questionnaires, the house guests have been paired up with their soul mates, according to Julie Chen. Of course, this assumes that their real soul mate actually also signed up to be on Big Brother.

Most of the pairs were matched very well and they seemed quite pleased with their soul mates.

The Big Brother house guests were paired as follows:

Amanda and Alex
Chelsia and James
Natalie and Matt
Joshuah and Neil
Sheila and Adam

That is the list of the first couples. What about the other players? In a pretty cruel twist, Big Brother is pushing the limits in an attempt to stir up drama and play with people's deep emotions. They have taken one former couple, Jacob and Sharon, who recently broke up, and put them on the show.

Sharon and Jacob: The Former Couple

Big Brother put Jacob and Sharon together. From what Sharon says, Jacob cheated on her and that was the end of their 12-year relationship. Before they were paired together, Sharon told three different house guests that he was her ex-boyfriend.

Sharon is pretty livid that she is paired with Jacob, and Jacob, who says he is still in love with her does not understand why she is so angry. If she gets past her anger and they work together as a team, they may stand a solid chance at winning. They will also be a target once more house guests find out that they were once a couple outside the house.

Just an update: HOH is still called HOH, but it is for the couple. The Power Couple got to evict without votes. BB may use it again, but who knows? :-)

I'm not sure how I feel about this year but I have to say that the older woman made a fool of herself. Okay, so she didn't like who they paired her with. I GET that but I don't see how making a fool of yourself helps to make your case. I hope they dump that couple.

Wonderful job Pam.. I watched it last night and of course was drawn in. I can't wait for the next episode so I always go to the spoiler sites with live updates. I was disappointed in who got evicted. I won't say who it was because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. But great recap.. :-)

Pam, it is totally amazing how you can write about something I would normally have no interest in and draw me in. This is so quirky and strange- can't help but wonder how it will turn out.
