just started playing basketball last year on the Junior Varsity team her freshman year. She led the team to victory, scoring an average of 13 points per game. She also earned first team all-district honors. Not bad for a newbie!

Griner was 6' tall her freshman year.

She quickly earned a position on the Varsity team for her sophomore year. Griner not only started the year off 6 inches taller at 6'6", she stepped up to be a leader and starter for the team immediately. She has posted 7 triple-doubles so far this season and has learned a new trick---dunking! The sophomore is now finding that she is more often than not double and triple teamed now with her outstanding average of 23 points per game, 10 rebounds and 6 blocks. Her team, the Cougars, is now at 20-5 for the season, with a lot of the credit going to this outstanding sophomore, who has been stepping up to account for three starters who are currently sidelined with injuries.

Griner's size is not limited to her height. Her shoe size has earned her the nickname, "Bigfoot". She wears a men's size 16 sneaker. She is learning to use her size as an advantage on the court and tune out the double and triple coverage. She's quick on her feet, a fast learner and she can dunk! It's no wonder that she has caught the media's eye.

Griner is also catching the eye of college recruiting scouts all across the United States including Miami, Baylor, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Louisiana State University, Kansas and in-state Texas, Texas Tech and Texas A&M.
