The Best Products for Treating Cold Sores

For many people, getting a cold sore is one of the more painful experiences of everyday life. They seem to come out of thin air so to speak and can last up wards of two weeks at a time. The pain these cold sores cause can be unbearable at times, not to mention the embarrassment they
cause. With over 40 million people getting cold sores every year the question comes down to, how do you treat a cold sore? What are the best products in getting rid of a cold sore? We will take a look at what I believe are the two best prescription medications in treating and eliminating cold sores.

For those of us who suffer from the effects of the herpes simplex virus, you know just how hard it is to treat them. We try many different cold sore remedies, creams, all natural cures and so many others that I couldn't even list them all here. But, for many, they have had little to no effect in eliminating the cold sore.

Things have now changed though. In the past few years there has been great strides made in treating and healing the formation of cold sores. And while there is no all out cure yet, medicine is now available to bring the healing process down to only a couple of days. You now have the choice of two different cold sore medications that will give you the much needed relief you're seeking.

Denavir

The first medication is called Denavir. It was FDA approved in 1996 and produced by Novartis. It is a prescription creme that you apply directly to the cold sore once every 2 hours while you are awake. You can apply Denavir by using your finger or a cotton swab. Be sure to wash your hands after handling so that you will not accidentally get it in your eyes, or spread the herpes virus to other areas of your body.

Denavir has been shown to completely heal a cold sore in 4 1/2 days. It also reduces the painful lesion by at least a half day. Can I use it for more than 4 days? Their tests have shown that using Denavir for more than 4 days will not have any additional healing capabilities.
