Why Bo Jackson is the Best Athlete Ever

In 1999 ESPN compiled a list of who they believed were the 100 greatest athletes of the century.  Their top 10 included the likes of Michael Jordan, Babe Ruth, Wayne Gretzky, and Jack Nicklaus.  Their top 10 was a great look at the athletes who were
the most popular or who achieved the most accomplishments but being a great athlete isn’t just about accomplishments.  While Babe Ruth can hit homeruns at will, I would never argue that he is a more gifted athlete than Willie Mays.  Jack Nicklaus might be the best golfer of all time, but is he really a better athlete than Jackie Robinson or Hank Aaron?  It can be argued that Michael Jordan dominated the sport of basketball unlike anybody in any other sport, but when he tried baseball he failed miserably.  So shouldn’t someone like Jim Brown who mastered several sports be considered a better athlete?  If they had taken into consideration just athletic ability alone, which is what the list suggests, then the list would look a lot different.  If the list ranked players on just their athletic ability then I think ESPN’s seventy-second choice should jump all the way up to number because the greatest athlete ever is Bo Jackson.

I’m sure everyone remembers Bo Jackson for his “Bo Knows Bo” Nike ad campaign when he was playing baseball for the Kansas City Royals while also playing football for the Oakland Raiders.  Well Bo Jackson was playing multiple sports long before then.  Jackson was born in Bessemer, AL and attended

McAdory
High School

where he first showed off his athletic abilities.  In addition to baseball and football he also was on the track team in high school and claimed two state decathlon championships. As a senior, Bo ran for 1,173 yards on 108 carries, an average of 10.9 yards every rush, and scored 17 touchdowns.  Meanwhile he also hit 20 home runs in just 25 games on the baseball field.  Bo was so impressive on the baseball field that the New York Yankees wanted to draft him out of high school but Bo declined and instead went to college at

Auburn
University

As far as you cannot argue Babe Ruth being a better athlete then Jackie Robinson or Willy Mays I would agree but which was the better Baseball Player? Show me another guy who could hit home runs like he did and pitch? He had over 200 Wins! No one will ever be a better baseball player then Babe Ruth. More home runs or not! Now as far as Bo Jackson. Hands down best Athlete of all time. Not best baseball player or best football player (pretty darn close though in football) Who knows what he could have achieved if he stayed healthy. I personaly think the guy had more athletic ability then anyone ever to play competative sports. You guys know he played Baseball and football at the top level but he also made the US winter Olympic team because of his speed.

Dan, Bo has personally allowed anyone and everybody who knows what to do with blood (obviously not you based on your steroid falacies) to look at and assess his blood testing records. Besides you tool box Bo didnt break any records which was your entire evidence of him juicing. Ergo by your stupid reasoning Jesse Owens took steroids, flaxseeed oil and HGH...must have. ahaha

Well, I got bad news for all of you. The man was juiced! He had to be. College football players at the NFL combine never run 4.12 in the 40 anymore. And certainly not at 220 pounds! I wonder why that is? Do you think that just might have something to do with performance enhancing drugs? What else could logically explain the numbers and the super-human strength? The 80's is when there was little testing for steriods, and they were easy do fool anyway. Steroid abuse among athletes was rampant back then. The way you can tell if an athlete is juiced is because of rediculous never before seen records and numbers. Athletes like Brady Anderson, Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Lance Armstrong, Florence Griffith-Joyner, and Michael Johnson all broke their own records or other athlete's records that had been established as very legitimate marks. They destroyed the existing records by huge margins. These guys had to be juiced. If a horse won the Kentucky Derby by 31 lengths next year, or

man i remember as a kid thinking...that guy is special...and bo was...but to me...over a lifetime of loving sports...we still need to throw passion into the mix...and hands down...no one loved his sport....more than jordan...it seaped out of him for almost 20yrs....no one in any other sport has had that type of dominance for that long...and know dis-respect to bo...mj was the leader of pro stars for a reason...the extra umph...in his abilities came from the love of the game...i'm 34years old now...so let's take it back to when i was 14....basically...mike has been there...bo's injury kept him out of the picture...but all n all...bo u get my number 3 vote...they did u wrong where they placed you....

The last year that Bo Jackson played on the Whitesox in 93,I saw him throw a guy out at 3rd base who was tagging up on a deep fly ball to Right Center field.Bo ran the ball down, caught it running towards the wall on thw warning track, turned around and made to this day the hardest throw I have ever seen to 3rd base to nail the guy on one hop.I can't remember who the runner was,but he got up,turned around and looked into center field and just shook his head as everyone in the stadium including me thought he would easily make it to 3rd safely.Man what an arm!!!
