In May of 2004, I went to Disney World for the first time with my family. It was an amazing trip and I would love to go again. With that in mind, I have put some thought into any changes I would make, and what I would do the same.

The Flight

Flying is definitely the way to go. For those of you who have traveled any amount of distance in a car, you know how exhausting it can be, whether you're the one driving or not. If you're going to splurge on a trip to Disney, go the extra mile and splurge on a plane ticket. Unless you only live a few hours driving distance from the park, this will definitely be worth the money. You'll be more refreshed once you get there and better able to enjoy yourself. For extra convenience, get a plane that does not have a layover, if possible.

Where You Stay

If possible, choose a resort in the park. This is incredibly convenient, especially if you are traveling in a group of more than two people. When you stay in the park, they have buses running from your resort to the park and back again on a regular and constant schedule. If you need to return to your room for any reason, all you have to do is hop on a bus. You can do this without requiring everyone in your party to leave with you. One day on our trip, we had left two of our passes to get into the park at the hotel. We were in a group of ten people, so the bus schedule allowed two of us to get back on the bus and return to the hotel for our passes, while the rest of our group went into the park. We were able to join our party within 30 minutes and continue our day.

Did You Know?
Walt Disney World near Orlando, FL opened on October 1, 1971. It only had Magic Kingdom and two resorts at that time.

Great tips, sounds like you and I came to many of the same conclusions via experience. My husband and I stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort, and staying at a Disney hotel makes the vacation SO much easier and worry free. I am a Disney fanatic, nice to find another grown up who likes it to! And a fellow hoosier as well, alright!

The trick with Disney World is they space out the good rides among all 4 separate parks like Epcot for Space Mountain, Disney World for Splash Mountain, etc.. You should do one park each day unless you are a power rider with older kids then it's entirely possible to hit all 4 parks in one day, do the good rides, and escape to Islands of Adventure the next day which is worth it for Spiderman The Ride alone. Avoid Universal Studios Orlando at all costs! The Hollywood park has a tram ride that takes you through a ton of cool stuff. This is missing in Orlando and you will wait in line 2 hours for everything that was included on the tram. About 6 things total. While in Orlando, check out the "biggest McDonalds in the world", The upside down building....it's a science center but I forget the name, the central park with the fountain, and the all you can eat lobster places. Sorry, I lived there for a while haha. The manager of some Disney World section was my neighbor and insi

Wow Susan, this article is packed with great advice. I wish you could have been around to write it back when I took my kids to Disney. Somehow though, I get the idea that you might have been a little bit too young to spell P-A-R-K, lol. *** nice to see you around the forum too :-)

My parents didn't love me either but I went to six flags a lot! You have to ride an old, creaky wooden roller coaster. Great advice for a fun vacation. Your fans were hoping for pics in the mouse ears.
