Here in New Hampshire we have experienced a wide variety of incredible weather in the past two weeks or so. There has been rain, sleet, snow, freezing rain, bone shattering temperatures, and more. The snow piles are getting so very high I am afraid a horrible accident could happen if children are left outside to play unsupervised. However, now that the snow piles are more like ice and slush piles than fluffy snow, there is a less likely chance of a child falling into a snow bank and getting stuck. I am a full time freelance writer who works from home. Luckily, I do not have to make the daily commute to work, and then drive back home again. I would be very anxious about driving in this weather. I did just go to the doctor's for a personal problem I needed to take care of before it got any worse. Most of the ride was OK, but only because the roads have been plowed and the rain seems to be washing most of the slushy snow out of the roads. The problem right now is that there are so many puddles of water all over the roads.
This could potentially become a very serious hazard. Some of the puddles are quite deep - maybe a foot or more. However, it is so difficult to tell ahead of time how deep the puddles are unless you drive through them. One puddle I did drive through had ice forming underneath it. I was unaware of this - of course - until my car slid quickly to the right. I was headed for a fifty mile an hour speed zone (where I would travel forty because of the weather). Luckily enough I was not near that speed at all yet and was completely focused on driving through this treacherous weather. I gained control of the car within a second and continued on my way home. There were some more losses of traction on the way home, but nothing I was too worried about.
