Washington, D.C. -- After being lambasted for not being conservative enough by the American Conservative Union, which runs CPAC, I didn't think Mike Huckabee was going to attend. CPAC is the Conservative Political Action Conference held annually in Washington DC and brings together conservative activists from around the country to discuss politics. Governor Huckabee was invited before the primary season began, but he didn't confirm whether he would speak or not until a few days before the conference.

As a Huckabee supporter, I was delighted to find out that he was scheduled to give a speech. I was less enthused to find out that the speech began at 9am on a Saturday morning. I'm not a morning person and I would have to get to the conference by 8 if I wanted to get a good seat. But for the chance to hear Huckabee in person, I gladly got myself up and out of bed early that morning! Huckabee's oratory skills are unparalleled by any other candidate running this primary season. I know many people who think Barack Obama is a great speaker, and he may be, but no one can match Huckabee's wit and charm.

When I arrived at the conference, I was greeted by a group of 20 to 30 Huckabee campaign volunteers who were passing out signs and stickers. I was impressed at the enthusiasm of this group and took a couple of signs and carried them with me for the rest of the day. I got a seat as close as I could to stage but there were also two giant TV screens on either side of the stage which showed the close-up of the stage. I sat excitedly awaiting the Governor's speech and made small-talk to the woman sitting next to me. She, too, was a Huckabee supporter and was decked out with signs and stickers as well.

Great coverage on this. It will be interesting to see if he stays in for Ohio and Texas. Looks like McCain has wrapped it up after last night. I really like Huckabee, and will be sad to see him go. :(
