This may seem a contentious article to write on a site for writers, though I believe it to have a point. In my writing "career" on-line, I have written to many sites, among them the following:

*Triond
*Ciao.fr
*Ciao.co.uk
*Dooyoo.co.uk
*Trivago.com
*Travel.com (now defunct)
*Epinions.com
*Helium.com

The reason for writing this article is that when you compare all the sites and what they offer writers, there are many areas of weakness in quite a few of the sites mentioned above. Many have tried the community game and it didn't work, grouping those members that were considered elite into positions of authority that affected the whole balance of sites, and indeed discouraging people from writing too many articles. I have highlighted the number of sites I write to in an effort to show I am not wet behind the ears and have been in the market long enough to recognize weaknesses and strengths in the what sites offer.

If you look at on-line sites and the whole concept of making money on-line, what you see is a need for content. Even this site where you are reading this article is called ASSOCIATED CONTENT, and sites like this depend upon content to survive. Checking out the difference between the sites on the Internet, what I found from experience was comparisons that horrified me into submission to demands made by the hierarchy. I was writing small quantities of articles, though by many standards this was still too much content.

What happens when people write a lot of articles on sites like Ciao, Dooyoo, etc., is that other people's work gets pushed to the bottom of the new reviews pile, and that is what is being frowned upon, rather than the fact that you wrote articles of substance in quantity.

That's really where Helium comes to the forefront. They really are not afraid of content, and let a writer decide how much content they submit to the site, and by goodness do they compensate you in so many ways. New members are nurtured, inexperienced writers mentored, and what comes over more than on any other site I have written on including AC is a sense of caring that is lacking elsewhere.

Takeaways
  • What's so great about Helium.

Marquis is right. Helium pays pennies for writers and their payments are hard to get out of them too. The only value to Helium are the Marketplace articles. Otherwise, beware they just waste your time and give very little money (pennies.)

Really? What do you mean no competition? Are you in some Twilight Zone? If you had enough sense of DECENCY you wouldn't USE AC to promote Helium. That means that Helium NEEDS A.C right? Now, face the facts! You can't say that Helium is BETTER than AC because that is NOT a FACT. Besides, what are YOU doing USING AC as a means of PR FOR Helium? Do you earn here? I do. Why don't you keep your face and sense of decency by not tooting your HORN TOO HARD at another's yard?

to Diane Cross, possibly because you have no competition and nothing to measure your work by. It's easy to become a writer who gets recognised. What is hard is to compete and still gain that recognition.

They do pay. I just hate the RATING system but they're honest. I just REALLY HATE the RATING SYSTEM... I'd rather get "calls" here at AC than do the contests there. The only thing good about Helium is the Marketplace!

Yes, I am paid on a regular basis and have never had any problems at all and since the introduction of their new bonuses, have indeed made a great deal more there than I make on this site.

I have read good and bad about Helium, my one question is this: Has anyone actually been paid by Helium? We aren't talking about account statements but been given an actual payment? As for AC, they have been good to me for some time, I used to write here under a different name but due to some stalkerish behavior by an outside party, I had to make some changes (Not AC's fault), but AC has consistently paid me with 48 hours of acceptance, the editors will let me know when I have a topic they are willing to pay for on a regular basis and have even had a few make suggestions for other angles. Performance pay is always nice as well and adds up pretty quick! Just my two cents!

and take advantage of the benefits of writing there, which I decided to do myself and have gained. I am an honest and sincere person, and do not purport to be in any way special or elitist. I write what I write because it interests me and I can put together a relatively persuasive article on many subjects, and get the backing of Helium site, and their platform to do what I enjoy doing which is writing, with the added perk of being extremely well paid. Going further than that, I teach other people to write magazine style articles and to help them gain the same success as me, but ultimately, the rewards are down to the individual's choice of participation and patience. The special promotional offer they are giving members at the moment is easily obtainable to all and pays dividents, sending out statements of what your anticipated earnings will be at the end of the promotional period, and mine are enough to go on holiday with.

As a UK writer I gain nothing from writing at this site. I write here because I want to, though can never withdraw funds. If you really want to make money from a site like Helium, the possibilities there are beyond question better than this site offers. The earnings potential is down to how much effort a member is prepared to put into the experience and for a member that can produce quality content in quantity, it is first rate. Not only that but they do not ask for exclusive rights, nor that their site be the first site you post your articles on. I write for many online sites, and believe me, I would not be promoting the idea of Helium being the best paid if I were not totally sincere in what I am saying. My earnings are amazing and the articles that you post gain impetus and pay you every month of your life. When I read failure stories of work at Helium, it is usually because the writers do not put enough effort in and are not prepared to stick out the initial stages and take advanta

Thingy, listen, I have worked with Helium and trust me, I have made nearly $1,000 so far with Associated Content. The site called Helium is one that I started with even before I found Associated Content. You can make $25 dollars in less than a week of writing with Associated Content. I write between 8 - 12 articles a week and earn anywhere from $30 - $50 with Associated Content. With Helium, I see nothing but the $2 that I have had since 2006. So Helium to me is garbage. Associated Content right now is the best of the best. If you continue to write, trust me, you will make some cash. I saw your response when I was backtracking to the Associated Content's forum and decided to answer your quick response what I said the last time.
