Whether it's for a romantic holiday, a date night, or just the desire to watch a romantic film, there are many to choose from. These are three that are often overlooked--and still equally inspiring.Bed of Roses-
Released in 1996, this film stars Mary Stuart Masterson and Christian Slater, with a supporting cast worth recognizing. Masterson plays a young careerwoman by the name of Lisa, whose confidence is lacking and her past kept a secret. Slater plays a man named Lewis, whose passion is for flowers. He spends his time working in his flower shop... until he meets Lisa. A mysterious bouquet of flowers arrives at Lisa's workplace from an unidentified source, so she sets out to discover this person's identity. Lewis's past troubles make it difficult for him to reach out to anyone, but before Lisa will let him into her world, she has to face her fears and overcome her own past: a difficult childhood that has haunted her for years.
This film, written and directed by Michael Goldenberg, is one of those that shocks and inspires, possessing a fairy-tale storyline and yet still believable.
MPAA Rating: PG for language and thematic elements.
A Walk in the Clouds-
Directed by Alfonso Arau, A Walk in the Clouds is the story of Paul and Victoria, two different yet similar individuals, set in the 1940s. Victoria, played by Aitana Sanchez-Gijon, returns home from college to help her family with the grape harvest, on which is built her family's fortune and fame. But she fears the worst when she has some bad news to share with her father--that she is pregnant by a man who no longer wants her. Paul, played by Keanu Reeves, has just returned home from war to find that his wife no longer desires him. He sets out to find better for himself, and on a train he meets Victoria, who is en route home. After sharing her story with Paul, he suggests that he pose as her husband in order to offset her father's anger. Their love grows from an act for her father to something they no longer have control over--and no longer want to.
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for sensuality and war action.
