Amid a flurry of reports that Hezbollah militant, Imad Mughniyeh, was killed in a car bombing in Syria on Tuesday, the United States has openly welcomed his death. According to Yahoo! News, State Department spokesman, Sean McCormack, said about Mughniyeh's death that "the world is a better place without this man in it." Personally, I can't believe anyone could openly welcome the death of another human being. Sure, we have our differences. Out of an ever-growing 6 billion and counting human population, there is going to arise substantial conflict and hatred between peoples spanning the globe. But is it right to "welcome" anyone's death? Isn't that one of the most arrogant statements a person could make?
Ok, it's important to remember that Mughniyeh was what any American would term as a "terrorist." He caused the United States and its allies a lot of grief, as he was constantly planning attacks against America. In 1985, Mughniyeh flew a TWA flight back and forth between Beirut and Algiers, demanding the release of Lebanese Shiites captured by Israel. But would have America acted any differently, had someone taken American hostages? No way, the United States would have bombed the hell out of anyone within miles of those responsible for such an act, and it would have been called "fearless patriotism." What was Mughniyeh supposed to do? Let the West and its allies walk all over his people?
