Valentine's Day is tomorrow! Are you ready? Did you think of what romantic thing you could do for that special someone? If not, you don't have much time left. But, you do have time. Traditionally, the gifts that are given on Valentine's Day are chocolates, roses, and a romantic dinner. Some may throw in some pink or red lingerie, although this is mainly for the giver not the givee.
In today's times, with the economy close to a recession and prices rising without the associated rise in income, many of your Valentines may be in a different place. Some of your Valentines may be hurting financially. Perhaps it's the $3 or more per gallon gas for your Valentine who commutes to and from work everyday. Maybe it's the mortgage that has gotten out of hand. It could even be the higher cost of groceries that's breaking the budget.
A couple of years ago, the thought would have been that you can't get a girl something practical on a romantic day. However, with the cost of living in today's society, I have to say that I personally would rather see money being spent go to some needed use. Today, this would be more romantic to me.
So, wouldn't it be thoughtful to get your Valentine something that will be romantic and useful? Here are some things you could do instead of just the traditional Valentine's gift:
1. Instead of a dozen roses, how about one rose and a $50 gift certificate to the grocery store where your Valentine buys groceries. Enclosed with a card that says something extremely romantic! This will tell your Valentine you remember where they shop, that you still want romance, but that you also know what they really need.
2. Instead of a hotel room out of town for the night, how about a certificate for one free maid service, for a service to come and clean the entire house? Make sure the card says this is so they can enjoy some free time and makes clear that you don't think their house is a mess! This will help your Valentine relax from having to deal with all kinds of issues with bills.
