According to information found on Slice Gossip website, the late John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, is suing a singer/songwriter for naming her band LENNON. The article went on to say that Ono feels rocker Lennon Murphy has "tarnished"and "exploited" the Lennon name and Ono wants the trademark canceled. Ono is paying no mind to the fact that this could be the end of Lennon Murphy's career, or at least the one she has already built, and Murphy claims that Ono approved of Murphy using the name Lennon in 2000.

Having played in a band (brief stint though it was) and being a lover of Beatles music, I find it humorous that Ono thinks this matter is tarnishing the Lennon name. Frankly, I feel Ono did enough tarnishing and exploiting of her own. I blame her for breaking up the Beatles and crushing Lennon's vibrant personality, and it appears to me that Lennon Murphy has done nothing wrong. It seems she is trying to honor his name, something Ono has done a terrible job at doing.
It's not like Lennon Murphy is trying to trademark the name "John Lennon." In that instance, I could understand the problem. But Lennon is her birth name, and yes she was named after John Lennon, but it's still the name she was given. What if Lisa Marie Presley had slapped Elvis Costello a lawsuit for using the name Elvis?

My own band, Viva, never had such problems. We were a foursome, like the Beatles, with me rocking out on the drums. We came from Alta Loma, California, a town that was the definition of suburbia. Our style was like none other, though we did have role models (including, of course, The Beatles), and our name was the world to us. We probably spent more time on our name then our music.

What I meant was ... that some folks are ready to splice and dice celebrities for just about anything they say and do. Whether or not Ms. Ono is suing Ms. Murphy (she's not) is none of our beeswax! C'mon folks, do you really believe our opinions matter, one way or the other? Nope, doesn't. Whatever we may think of either lady is immaterial -- it's what we DO that really matters. THINK your thoughts then move on and DO something more worthwhile then being an opinionator (me included). See y'all at the malls ...

And justice lives not here, obviously.

The only rethink needed is your own. Ono's not trying to stop Murphy from using her own name, she's trying to stop her from holding the trademark to the name "Lennon" for all musical purposes, an action which apparently Murphy's label initiated.

Lennon Murphy: Talented up and coming rock vocalist. Yoko Ono: Washed-up no-talent hack with too much time and money.
