Personally, I'm not a big fan of someone buying me flowers - I'm much more inspired by getting out in the yard, and making a masterpiece out of it by planting a wonderful variety of flowers, among other things.

As romantic as a single flower can be - I realized that I had to join the bouquet side of this thought-provoking debate, because I love miniature lavender roses - and a bouquet of those would be more fitting than a single miniature rose. Also, whenever I give flowers to someone, for whatever the reason may be, I always give a bouquet - and I must admit, I have always been given bouquets vs. a single flower (including roses).

What I always try to do when someone has given me flowers, is to dry them (then it becomes like a gift that keeps on giving) and then place them around the house as wall-hangings, or in a pretty vase. Not only does this ensure that the gift is remembered, but shows the gift 'giver' that you valued their efforts, whenever they stop by.

If my valentine really wanted to impress me, they would put their time/efforts/money into growing some beautiful flowers in their backyard, and then giving me a bouquet compiled of their labor of love. That would be so much more romantic than having driven to the store, and purchasing a bouquet of flowers grown by someone else.

For someone giving flowers (roses in particular) to someone they have only known for a short time (and perhaps does not have the good fortune of knowing the recipient's favorite color in advance) a mixed bouquet would probably be the way to go. Red roses are the typical 'go to' flower for most valentine's day purchases - but how much more romantic would it be to actually receive a bouquet filled with roses of your favorite color? It also speaks volumes about your valentine's interest, when they have taken the time to really get to know you, and are not just simply 'going through the motions'.

Hopefully, though, everyone will get their favorite flowers - along with their favorite color, and quantity - whether that be just one, or something more along the lines of what Donald Trump might pick out for that beautiful lady Milania!

It does all come down to personal preference - but I just love to put together an arrangement of freshly cut flowers (though not to deplete the garden they were picked from)

My wife and I agreed to giving the single rose every year for Valentine's Day. it was nice to establish this early on in our relationship so that we never felt slighted or the need to constantly do more with each year.

Aww I loved this, I use to pick my own flowers that my neighbor use to have in his back yard and give them to my mom and stuff when i was younger. She always liked the fact that I took my own time to pick her the flowers. Love flowers and very nice read!!
