Recap: Big Brother 9, Episode 2

This episode picks up immediately after the "Falling For You" Power Couple competition with the Houseguests scattered into groups continuing to get to know each other. Adam used the word "retarded" to label the children with disabilities he works with. A couple of the Houseguests were offended, but Shelia was the one who called him out.

Shelia continued discussing Adam's offense inside the house. She said "Adam is so creepy." Having people with disabilities in her personal life, she was very offended by Adam's words and attitude towards the children he works with. After talking about him behind his back, she confronted him, but he just did not get it.

Being a disabilities rights advocate myself, I found myself offended as much as Shelia. I would have confronted him as well. Only one small segment of the disability community can be medically diagnosed as having any form of mental retardation. He was throwing children with developmental disabilities and autism all under the label of "retarded." I believe his words will haunt him for years.

Meanwhile, we see Allison sitting on the kitchen counter flirting with Ryan. Ryan was balancing keeping up the act with Allison while checking on Jen's reaction to Allison's flirtation. Jen was all the way on the other side of the room and it seems unlikely that she could hear, it was his sense of guilt that kept him looking her way.

Later that first evening, Ryan and Jen hide away and kiss after whispering through a doorway about their difficulties in seeing each other in bed with someone else.

A showmance began brewing between Alex and Amanda, as they are physically attracted to each other. Joshuah and Neil were cheerleaders to their flirtations and Joshuah said that Alex and Amanda physically have the look of a couple.
