Fictionary: A Perfect Tea Party Game
All you need for this fun and creative game is a dictionary, blank paper, writing utensils and three or more people. Fictionary will challenge your ability to make up definitions of words you don't know.
How to Play:
First, hand out blank pieces of paper and writing utensils to each player. Player One (selected at random) opens up the dictionary and searches for a word that he or she thinks nobody is familiar with. Player One says the word aloud to the group. If someone in the group actually knows the real definition of the word, he or she must raise their hand and then speak aloud what they believe the definition to be. If they are correct, then Player One must select a new word. Once a word is found that no one knows, Player One writes the real definition down on a piece of paper. The other players write down their own made-up definitions. Once they are done, they pass their papers to the Player One, who then jumbles the papers up and then reads all the definitions, one after the other, including the real definition. Then the other players each vote on which definition they think is the real one. This concludes one round of play. Scores are tallied by Player One and then the dictionary is passed to the next player to start the next round. The game is finished when all players have had at least one opportunity to use the dictionary to select a word. The game can continue until one player reaches an amount of points that the group previously agrees upon as being the winning number. (For example, the first person to reach 10 points is the winner.)
Scoring:
There are three ways to score a point. Scores are tallied at the end of each round.
1. The player who wrote a definition that was selected by another player receives a point.
2. The player who selects the word from the dictionary to begin the round receives a point if no one selects the real definition.
3. The player who selects the real definition receives a point.
It is possible for a player to receive multiple points in multiple ways, after each round.
