Sure, they had their reasons. Knight was a fiery personality and still is. He always said what was on his mind, even if his comments were detrimental to his own credibility or that of the university's.

He exhibited some anger management issues that have been well documented. From throwing chairs, to being questionably physical with players on the team, Knight rarely held back his emotions even it meant coming across as overly aggressive and irate.

Nonetheless, no one was ever hurt due to something Knight did. There's not a former player of Knights or a basketball fan out there who would say that Knight caused them any physical, mental or emotional anguish. In the end, he was what he was; a fiery, passionate, person with the self-confidence and ego to put that passion on display no matter what the situation was. But he never did anything that hurt anybody.

Except the administration at Indiana University. For them, Knight's actions were an embarrassment to the school, and that is understandable. Afterall, they are an institution of higher learning and sophistication, and to have the most prominent figure at your school inappropriately hitting kids or using foul and distasteful language in front of national audiences isn't exactly the image you want to bring to an education institution.

So when Indiana implemented their "zero tolerance" policy for Knight and his actions, and he once again failed to stay on right side of the line, Indiana let him go, and Knight went off and took his basketball legacy with him.

Hundreds of Knights wins later, Indiana finds themselves in a situation that even the over zealous coach of their past never brought upon the school. Current Indiana head coach Kelvin Sampson is under investigation for violating recruiting sanctions imposed upon him for breaking NCAA rules when he was the coach at Oklahoma University. The school is now mired in an investigation that involves around 100 impermissible calls made the Sampson and his coaching staff which could lead to self-imposed post-season probations, further recruiting limitations, and the possible firing of Sampson himself.

Maybe he will just be invited back! That would be a hoot. I feel sorry for Indiana, they have made such bad decisions (in my opinion only) Thanks for the article. I enjoyed it. I love college basketball.
