Has it been a
Long day?
I can't remember.
The hours seem to have
Passed
Without my notice,
Again.

My eyes hurt,
As though they have
Spent the whole day
Gazing at things so important
That they have had to strain terribly.
I can barely keep them open,
And it's only midnight.

These eyes of mine, they must have seen
Marvelous things today
If they felt the need to look
So carefully that they now hurt.
What things could they have possibly seen,
I wonder?

Perhaps they have gazed upon
A beautiful landscape,
Looking over rolling hills,
Swaying grass,
Trees lending their leaves to the wind.
Maybe they watched the sun as
It fell behind those rolling hills.

Perhaps they have had the
Pleasure to view art
That had inspired someone,
A mother, a teacher, a merchant,
A cobbler, a beggar-
All artists-
To show what they have deemed
beautiful
to the world.

Maybe these eyes have seen a
Monument,
Erected in the honour of a hero.
Maybe they scrutinized this monument carefully,
Trying to find what made this person a
Hero
without reading the words that tell the story.
Maybe they wondered if they, like many others,
Possess the same traits as this hero,
So that maybe, one day, they may be one themselves.

Perhaps they have seen
Friends,
Loved ones.
Perhaps they shared hugs, laughs and
Smiles
And told stories of recent and old days.

These tired eyes must have
Seen a lot today,
They are so weary,
And can barely stay open any longer.
What have they seen, I wonder?
Who knows? Perhaps they will
Tell me in my
Dreams.
