Have you ever wondered why sit-down restaurants give out free peppermints? When we order Pizza Hut, they include a handful of peppermints with the order sometimes. Taco Bell does too at times. Actually, these mints are to help freshen your breath. But, they can also calm a queasy stomach. And, if your allergies are flaring up a bit, sucking on a peppermint can help clear nasal congestion. Read this informative article and find out some more of the amazing health benefits of Peppermint!Sources of Peppermint
As I said, peppermints and candy canes are common sources of peppermint, as well as Altoids breath mints. Peppermint leaves, which are brewed to make tea, and peppermint oil are natural products from this cool-tasting plant. You can also buy peppermint extract for cooking and baking.
Peppermint Settles Your Nauseated Stomach and Calm Your Rattled Nerves
One of the amazing health benefits of peppermint that Grandma taught us, is that chewing on a fresh, washed peppermint leaf can help settle an upset stomach. A steaming hot cup of this tea is also effective in calming your harried nerves, especially if you lean down and smell the aroma as you sip the tea.
Fresh peppermint leaves and peppermint tea are also quite effective in soothing diarrhea and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). A cup of tea can easily be made by placing some peppermint leaves in a cup. Fill the cup with boiling water, then cover it. Let the tea steep for about 10 minutes. Then, strain the leaves out and drink the tea.
Peppermint Clears Nasal Congestion
Sucking on peppermint candies and chewing on fresh, washed peppermint leaves can help clear nasal congestion. I carry Altoids with me all the time for when my allergies flare up. Peppermint can also help clear congestion caused by a common cold.
