Barefoot in the Park
Only for the Young
It was a mushy Valentine's Day for both of my kids. My son and his girlfriend, who was his ex-girlfriend for about a year, got back together. Julia, my daughter, did not behead her boyfriend. Although things seemed tense all day with her as this was her first Valentine's Day with a boyfriend, everything ended up working out fine.
Julia was incensed that her boyfriend did not get her gift as soon as she would have liked. I heard it all day that he was "waiting until the last minute" to get a gift for her, the Queen. I also had to listen to that if he got her candy, she was leaving it with him and coming home. This really upset me, as I am more than willing to have that candy.
Meanwhile, Michael, my son, went out at the last minute to the mall to get his girly girl a gift at her designated store. Michael dated his girlfriend for a year, but they broke up last year. They started to get back together around Christmas, but weren't technically "dating," even though she was here all the time and they went out everywhere together. And my son had resumed his chauffer duties.
Michael knows exactly what to get his girlfriend and does so accordingly. He is very well versed in "yes dear" and "no dear." Michael will have a lasting and happy relationship with whichever woman he finally settles down with.
Julia was ready to tear her boyfriend's head off all day. The tension built. We all felt sorry for her hapless boyfriend who didn't seem to be interested that much in Valentine's Day, at least not enough to suit her. He hadn't made a reservation for a restaurant. She was livid by the time she went to his house. We all were worried for his welfare.
