Cable Car Pizza has pretty good quality pizza slices, and a decent deal on pasta plates and dinners for around $6-7. Located on busy Valencia Street between 16th and 17th streets, it's a small place with just a little room to eat in.
Apparently the pizza can be hit-or-miss, as I've seen a lot of bad reviews of this place. I've only visited right around dinnertime in the mid-to-late afternoon, and the pizza has always been at least decent. The only issue I've ever had is that sometimes they don't heat the slices adequately in the oven and you have to ask them to put them back in for a bit, which is sometimes met by surliness. But I mean come on, who wants pizza that is cold all the way through? You know what though, it only happens when they have young girls behind the counter. I've noticed that whoever runs this joint seems to have a penchant for hiring young, buxom girls who dress kind of trampily to work the counter at night. It's always the girls who can't be bothered to heat the pizza properly. When it's the guy (owner?) or one of the older women manning the counter in the afternoon, I always get a good and well prepared pizza slice. So if your server is flashing some skin, be wary. A little cleavage and tummy does not compensate for cold pizza and slightly high prices.
