When you are visiting somewhere for the first time, there are usually things that you like to get to help you get through your vacation. These things could be things like cold bottled water, sunscreen, aspirin or some coffee. It is already a given that things like this will be more expensive at the corner market places than they would be at a grocery store.

On the North Shore of Oahu, which stretches from Waialua to Laie, there are only really three major grocery stores. They are Malama Market Place and IGA in the Center of Haleiwa and Foodland in Pupukea. For my money and the amount of things that you can get, I prefer Foodland to the other two.

For one thing there are a ton of things that you can get at Foodland. As a kid I remember going there with my parents on the weekends to grocery shop or just get little things here and there. They also have a member card where you can get discounts on certain items. Much like the larger grocery store chains like Albertson's, Safeway or Fry's on the mainland. Malama Market Place and IGA do not offer such things.

You can get your usual grocery items here like cereal, milk or juice, but you can also get more specialty type things such as hot and ready meals at the deli or fresh fish and pre packed sushi trays. You can also get all of your beach needs like beach towels, sun screen, swim floaters for the kids or a snorkel and scuba mask to check out the coral reefs of the north shore.

The other reason why many enjoy Foodland is because of the newly installed Starbucks. If you are a Starbucks fan, then you will realize the true value of this location, as it is the only one in at least a 20-mile radius. The closest one after this is almost a 45-minute drive to Mililani Town. You can get all of your mocha and coffee needs while you grocery shop.
