2008 Fantasy Baseball Cheat Sheet Rankings: Second Base

All rankings are based off of a standard 5x5 rotisserie scoring system (runs, homeruns, rbi, stolen bases, average) in mixed AL/NL leagues. For additional fantasy information on players and their teams, click on the team name link after each player to view a fantasy team preview for that
team in 2008. Good luck with your team this season!

BUST = player will register far below their 2007 stat totals
BREAKOUT = player will surpass expectations and/or have a career year in 2008
SLEEPER = player will be a late round pick or go undrafted and has a good chance of producing fantasy worthy stats in 2008

1. Chase Utley - Philadelphia Phillies
Utley is the clear runaway at second base.

2. Brandon Phillips - Cincinnati Reds
Who would have thought Phillips had a 30-30 season in him?

3. BJ Upton - Tampa Bay Rays
On the verge of fantasy stardom.

4. Robinson Cano - New York Yankees
If not for Phillips' and Upton's breakout in 2007, Cano would be the best option after Utley.

5. Brian Roberts - Baltimore Orioles
Repeating 50 stolen bases in '08 will be tough.

6. Dan Uggla - Florida Marlins
Proved skeptics wrong in '07 with a great rookie follow up campaign.

7. Howie Kendrick - Los Angeles Angels BREAKOUT
Kendrick could easily be in the top 5 fantasy second baseman by seasons end.

8. Ian Kinsler - Texas Rangers
20 homeruns and 20 steals is a great addition to any team.

9. Chone Figgins - Los Angeles Angels

10. Dustin Pedroia - Boston Red Sox BUST
Better in real life than fantasy.

11. Rickie Weeks - Milwaukee Brewers BREAKOUT
Weeks is more talented than he showed in '07.

12. Jeff Kent - Los Angeles Dodgers
He's getting old...

13. Placido Polanco - Detroit Tigers
Gotta love his potential in a stacked Tigers lineup.

14. Kelly Johnson - Atlanta Braves BUST
Plainly put, Johnson overachieved in '07.

15. Aaron Hill - Toronto Blue Jays
With 17 homeruns in 2007, Hill has more power than you think.

16. Freddy Sanchez - Pittsburgh Pirates
If he finds his 2006 form he's worth drafting.

17. Yunel Escobar - Atlanta Braves SLEEPER

18. Orlando Hudson - Arizona Diamondbacks

19. Asdrubal Cabrera - Cleveland Indians SLEEPER
Sleeper alert.
