"Everyone Worth Knowing" is a best-selling novel by Lauren Weisberger

The Plot

The main character, Bettina (Bette), works at a bank, but suddenly quits, because she could not stand it anymore. Her lovable uncles, Will & Simon, decide that she needs help in finding a new job, so they call one of their friends, Kelly, who happens to own an event-planning company. Kelly's company knows celebrities and plans events specifically for anyone who needs them. Penelope, Bette's best friend, is also a character who we learn to love and accept throughout the novel. This novel is about the journey of Bettina's life and new job as an event planner. Bette learns that celebrities, partying, and event planning is not an easy life. Bette also realizes that there is drama, love, tabloid issues and lies in this complicated business. We also learn that there are people who are worth knowing in the world. The people that we know can make or break us, and it pays to know someone in the business that you are looking to get into.

My Review

"Everyone Worth Knowing" is an okay book if you like to take a break from the so-called 'real world' and learn about celebrities and parties. I loved that I could relate to Bette- she was an English major (like me), unemployed ( I am also unemployed and looking at the moment!), and she did not know what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. As I continued reading the book, I liked how we found out information at the same time she was learning it.

Some parts of the book were predictable, yet others, like the ending and the plots and twists before the ending, were unpredictable. It was predictable that Bette was going to fall in love and get her ultimate fairy tale ending, but you do not know how or why that happens. One of the unpredictable parts in the book is that she is an avid reader of adult romance novels and she is in a book club that discusses these books. It would have been more interesting if Weisberger had talked about the book club, and the members in the club.
