Supply and Demand: Chanel’s Black Nail Polish

Every first-year business student has to learn about the supply and demand theory. It states: supply is the amount that a producer is willing and able to sell at a specific price, while demand is the amount of product that is sold. Chanel’s Black Nail Polish is in great demand, but because the supply is limited the prices for the product has skyrocketed.

Chanel’s black nail polish is all the rage this season. Famous actresses, always the first to glob on to a new trend, are being photographed wearing the much sought-after product. However, if you are the average woman who likes to keep up with fashion trends then you are out of luck. It seems Chanel’s Black Nail Polish is sold out. Why? Earlier on, before the polish went on the market, Chanel decided to make one black nail polish for the U.S.A, which is a limited addition, and one for France, which is not a limited addition. The reasoning behind this decision remains a mystery to many of us. However, Chanel decision to have the product sold in only certain USA department stores and boutiques makes one think there is a method to their madness. Because Chanel’s black nail polish is sold out, it has become the most coveted nail polish product to come along in years.

For this reason the price of their polish is being sold online for triple its original price. Chanel’s black nail polish is priced at $18.00, but if you were to look online, and I have, one would find prices ranging from $40.00 to $150.00 dollars.

What is even more interesting, is that if you are an enterprising young woman, sure that other companies would have come out with their own brand of black nail polish, surprise, they haven’t. The only other brands of black nail polish that come up, when searching online, are the kind you find in the kids Halloween section at local drug stores, priced at $3.00.

Takeaways
  • Chanel's black nail polish is sold out across the country
  • One can find a bottle of Chanel's black nail polish online priced at $40 to 150.00 dollars
  • Chanel's has priced their nail polish at $18.00

Black Onyx is COMPLETELY different from Black Satin. Onyx is opaque. Satin has a slight shimmer. If you mix Onyx with OPI's Van-Covered in Snow you'll end up with a tone that looks more like Chanel's satin.

I absolutely agree w/you. I have a Black Onyx nail polish by OPI and look just like CHANEL(Black Satin)and I paid for $7.50 and I love it!

There are other black nail polishes out there that are not for Halloween. O.P.I has a very nice one and NYC brand has a cheaper one that requires more coats but still looks very nice. Maybe you guys don't have Target or are too snooty to shop there. Who care's if it's Chanel? You can always tell people it's Chanel anyway because it's not like the little logo gets painted on.
