Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. (Gal 3:13-14)According to the Word we have been redeemed from the curse of the law. If you look back into the Old Testament, particularly in Deuteronomy you see that the curse included separation from God, sickness and disease, and poverty. This curse reaches every part of our general existence. But we see in the above verse that Christ redeemed us from the curse that we might share in the blessing. In Deuteronomy we see the great blessing that God gave to Abraham. God's people who followed the law would enjoy closeness to God, health and prosperity. They would be blessed beyond measure; they would be the head and not the tale; above and not beneath. However to perfectly follow this law was impossible, because they had a sin nature brought about by the fall. However Christ came and we can be born again and the law would be written on our hearts thereby being redeemed from the law's curse and brought into the blessing of Abraham.
However the blessings of God do not simply fall on us automatically. We have an enemy that works day and night to try to deceive us and keep us from the blessing. So we have to stay in and search out the Word, meditating in it day and night learning to live out this redemption that Christ has won for us.
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31-32)
Jesus spelled out the principle in the above verse. If we continue in his word then we will be disciples or disciplined and the truth revealed will make us free. We must continue in his word, not just do a little devotion every now and then. We have to diligently seek Him in His Word if we want the reward of this blessing (Hebrews 11:6).
