Today I am no longer a smoker however I have been and I have seen both sides of the coin. Recently the state of Michigan debated over weather they would continue to allow smoking in side a public Establishment or not. The bill did not pass and smoking is still allowed to be done inside restaurants and such places.

AS a smoker I lived In The Salt lake Valley for over 8 years, Utah has a thing called the clean air act ; this means that you are not allowed to smoke with in 50 feet of any public entrance and no where near any spot that a public services assigned stop might be. As well as parks. This means that even if you are out side you still must be aware of the ground you light up on.

In certain parts of California a smoker is not allowed to light up any where that one might run the risk of breathing your smoke . It certainly brings forth the question as to who has right s in this case . I as a former smoker can see how a smoker may feel a bit shunned by the rest of society, However I as a former smoker have had the chance to experience the stench of smoke and can tell the difference when a cigarette has been smoked inside or not i can till that smoking is invasive all who are forced to breath the air.

The idea that a smoker should step out side makes sence the fact that we have to spend tax dollars to insure that they do is sadd smokers should be informed of proper addequet and be expeted to uphold that eddquiett by thier pures

Did You Know?
Utha clean air act and Cal. law

I've never smoked myself but my husband, sisters, and other family members have. I don't get the attraction but I don't judge either. I will admit, however, that it was hard to be around those smoking when I was already having breathing problems. It made everything much harder on me as far as recovery. But except for my clients at work, most people were kind enough to step outside if I asked them nicely or allowed me to excuse myself until they were finished.

I liked the way you considered different viewpoints

Congratulations on quitting. I know so many people who have not yet found the strength to do so. Thank you for offering this view of both sides of the issue.

Great topic and article. I am an ex-smoker myself, but will NEVER be an ANTI-smoker. I understand not wanting people to smoke around kids, but these forces have taken things too far. I am sick of the Tobacco Gestapo. I thought we were free!
