I hate using plastic chopping boards and always prefer wooden cutting boards. But the major problems with the wooden boards are that they either warp or crack in course of time. Still my heart goes with the wooden blocks and I finally found the Catskill Craftsmen Wood End Grain Cutting Slab. I was totally impressed by its majestic look, substantial weight and roomy surface area. This comes in 18x18x3 inches and this is so big that you can cut and leave the vegetables for an elaborate meal, salad, soup or stews on the cutting slab itself without transferring into another bowl. I think it is deliberately made 3inches thick to control warping. The Catskill Craftsmen weighs 27 pounds and children should be kept away from it. I like the heaviness of the block and this makes it look like those professional chopping boards used by the chef. Since it is heavy this will not move, slip or skid even under vigorous motion. Earlier with my previous traditional wooden board I used to spread wet towel below the block to keep it under control. The Catskill Craftsmen Cutting Slab will not budge until you move it forcefully. This is designed with grooves so that it can be carried without dropping down.
Before buying this for $100 I was wondering about its durability and thinking whether it is worth the money. Now after having used it every day regularly for more than 2 years I am convinced about its quality and this is not at all overrated. I would suggest you to buy the Catskill Craftsmen Wood Cutting Slab and relax for a couple of years instead of spending frequently on cheap wooden boards. This is made of maple hardwood and the grains are impact resistant. Unlike the plastic boards this does not get chipped and the cuts are faint. This is made of superior quality natural wood and the best part is that the wood is sourced from self replenishing trees without disturbing the eco-system.
