Movie Trailer Report No. 3: Indiana Jones, Wall-E and More

This batch of trailers includes the long-awaited fourth installment of the Indiana Jones series, as well as the latest Disney-Pixar collaboration, Wall-E.

INDIANA JONES and the KINGDOM of the CRYSTAL SKULL (May 22)
This trailer relies on nostalgia (the hat, the whip, the music) and doesn't seem to offer any surprises. The movie looks entertaining, but if you close your eyes and imagine what a new Indiana Jones movie would look like, that's exactly what you get.

Harrison Ford is a little older, of course, but he's working hard and having a good time. Shia LaBeouf should draw some younger viewers. The main villain is a woman with a black bob haircut, and she doesn't seem too threatening. As sequels go, this should land in the Die Hard or Rambo category, rather than the Spider-Man or Shrek category.

STREET KINGS (April 11)
Keanu Reeves stars as a cop in this Los Angeles-based crime drama. It looks like a lot of fun, but the trailer doesn't let us know that Reeves must eventually fight against his fellow cops when he is falsely accused of killing a fellow cop. Many trailers give away too much. This is the rare trailer that should have fed us a little more of the plot, because the action looks great. Street Kings also features Hugh Laurie, Cedric the Entertainer, Common and The Game.

THE HAPPENING (June 13)
If you are a fan of M. Night Shyamalan's movies and were disappointed by The Lady in the Water, you're in good viewing. The Happening trailer shows us that something really bad is going on, but it doesn't make clear what the problem is. The residents of a Midwestern town realize that the major cities of America are being attacked by something, and then they are completely cut off from communication with the rest of the world. Yes, I know it sounds like Jericho, but it still looks good. Mark Wahlberg seems to be doing a great job as the confused but resourceful schoolteacher/hero.
