Stop Cyber Bullying

I was flipping through channels this morning when I came across the Tyra Banks Show. They did a show that covered cyber bullying. There were different people from across the nation and they had an eighth grade class from New York on the show. The first persn that spoke was a mother of a girl named Megan who committed suicide because of a cyber bully. She was only 13 years old. Can you believe that? A 13 year old girl committed suicide because of someone who had nothing else to do but bully someone through the internet.
The mayor of their town was also there and she said that she didn't find any laws regarding cyber bullying and she's been working on passing a bill for it. I believe that this is a great idea. There were several cases on cyber bullying and it's time for us to act on it. Some people may think that it's only bullying but as you can see, it's really not. The internet can be a harmful place for many teenagers, even adults! We may think that those are just little words and we need not worry about it, but we have to. A teenager committed suicide because of an online bully!
We have to teach our kids and even adults to use technology in a safe way. These kids learn from us, adults. What some of them are doing can be harmful to others. They may think that they're only playing a small joke on someone but that's not the case anymore. Not everyone can take bullying the same way. Some people don't it bother them but there are those who are very emotional and those who have low self-esteem.
There was a father on the show who had a son who was only in eighth grade that also committed suicide. A friend of his started rumors about him and we all know how mean kids can get. It got to the boy and he decided to end his life.
We can talk to these kids and tell them not to let it bother them but does it always work? No. One way we can stop this from happening is if we teach them to treat each other with respect.
It's sad what our world had come to. Bullying has been a part of grade school, middle school, and high school for a very long time but when does it stop? When are we going to realize the implications of these actions?
