Cat litter box odor can be a major problem, especially in a home with more than one cat. Even lower priced cat litter is too expensive to change on a daily basis, and changing it is a chore. There are easy ways to get rid of cat litter box odor without changing it daily and without getting rid of the cat. If you have problems with litter box odor, consider these easy ways to get rid of the odor for good. Guest may not even realize that you have a cat!

My older cat was once a major cause of litter box odor. Not only did she leave behind piles that smelled extremely putrid, but she never buried them before leaving the box. It's like a person leaving the bathroom without flushing the toilet, and I had to do it for her. This was after the room was already completely engulfed by a terrible stench, and burying the offensive mater was only half the battle.

I found several ways to get rid of kitty box odor, and they were very effective. My home no longer smells like an open septic tank, and my cat's waste no longer has an unusually foul odor. Give these ideas a try!

Change Your Cat's Diet

If your kitty is leaving behind exceptionally foul smelling piles of waste consider your cat's diet. Are you feeding your feline cheaper dry food or canned food? Cheaper dry food contains fillers and unnecessary bulk which causes a greater amount of waste and an exceptionally foul odor. Wet kitty food also causes foul smelling waste, and if your favorite feline doesn't bury the waste before leaving the box, it only compounds the problem.

Consider gradually changing your cat's diet to a higher quality food. You'll notice a huge difference in the amount of waste the cat leaves behind, and the odor won't be as noticeable. Not only will higher quality cat food lessen the waste and odor, but it will also improve your cat's overall health.

Thanks for this article. I needed it, as I have this problem with my younger cat, but the older one has better litter tray manners and there is no odour after he uses it, even though they both eat the same food. Sophie

Our cats are outdoors trained but when our oldest kitty became ill, we moved her indoors and did the litter box thing. I was clueless at the time how to keep the odor down...these great tips help explain what I was doing wrong.

Although we don't have cats now, when we had them we had to deal with odor issues. Your advice would have been so appreciated. Super article, great points about types of litter to use and cat foods.
