There are many risks associated with the ironing your clothes including heat damage to more sensitive forms of fabric, fading of fabrics, and the time it takes to iron just one piece of clothing in order to get the seams and creases just right and the wrinkles out. Here are some handy time saving tips for using the power of heat as a highly viable alternative to ironing your clothing.

The greatest alternative to ironing your clothing is heat. Although the heat from an iron causes risk of damage to fabric, there are many other useful ways you can utilize heat to keep the wrinkles out of your clothing, and to ensure that your slacks hold their crease.

The greatest method for using heat as an alternative to ironing is to take advantage of steam. Many people take a shower before they get dressed to go to work, school, church or even play. Hot showers generate a lot of heat which fills the entire bathroom and fogs up the mirror. Use this steam to your advantage. Hang your wrinkled shirts and pants on the towel rack, on the back of the door, or near the mirror and let them catch the steam from the hot running water of your shower. The heat will remove the wrinkles and also any odor from the clothing which may have been caused by hanging in the closet. After steaming your clothing, spray on a little spray starch or a homemade solution of corn starch and water. Your clothing will smell fresh and resist wrinkles.

Urgh, I hate ironing! You could do what I do and don't iron something till you need it! I also find that the tumble drier gets out most creases in clothes, which is great in the winter, but not so great in the summer!

That's what I'm talking about! Now, if you could figure out a way to starch and press my Air Force BDUs to look like their usual cardboardy selves, without using the steam press, that'd be a GREAT article! :-)

I usually just pop them in the dryer if I can get away with it, but thats not the most energy efficient way to do it either. I'll have to try the Downy wrinkle releaser.

I use the iron so seldom it is hidden away. Now, find me a trick to get rid of cat hair, besides getting rid of the cats, and I will love you for ever.

Buy wrinkle free clothes? Work from home so you never have to worry about it? Great tips!

Nice article. I travel a lot, and the trick to the shower steam is to spray a little more water on the stubborn wrinkles, then use the hair dryer after the shower steam.:)

Any excuse not to iron is a good one imho. However, I have never had luck when traveling trying to use the shower steam trick.
