Review: QVC's Set of Six Copper Finished Solar Lights
Installation with these was very easy because there was no wiring to be done. I probably would have had to hire someone to install electric lights so buying these for $78 seemed inexpensive comparatively. The lights have sturdy metal stakes, instead of the usual plastic ones, on the bottom which makes them easy to get into the ground. As long as you wait until the ground is thawed, you should not have any problem.
These lights charge by the power of the sun throughout the day and then last for about 10 hours at night. The set comes with 12 rechargeable AA batteries. The batteries need to be charged about once every 6 months. I only leave the lights out during warm months so I simply charge the batteries before putting them in the ground for the season.
I have had these for two years and am starting to notice a little bit of rust around the bottoms where they touch the ground. The solar panels on the top on a couple of the lamps are turning white which I assume is from moisture leaking under them. This doesn't seem to be having any effect on how well they work or how long the light lasts.
I really like having a set of these along my front walkway. I feel safer because the ground is lit up so I won't trip and it lights up the surrounding area so I can see if anyone is around. We have rabbits that like to sit on our lawn and they used to hop away when I approached which usually startled me but that doesn't happen anymore.
I would recommend these lights because they really do put out a lot of light. They are attractive and do not look like the cheaper plastic versions you would find in a store like Wal-mart. I have received several compliments on them and a friend of mine bought a set for herself. However, if you live somewhere rainy or plan to leave them outside during the winter I would suggest you look for a different product because of the problems with rust. Overall, they're a handy way to light up your yard.
