Wisconsin Exit Poll Results

As the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton showdown rolls on, people are already looking ahead to the controversial "superdelegate" battle at the Democratic convention. However, there are still primaries before then, for

both the Democrats and Republicans. Before Obama and Clinton are at the mercy of the superdelegates, primaries like tonight's Wisconsin primary are still vital for Democratic and Republican voters to express themselves. As the Wisconsin exit polls show, the voters for both parties still have a lot to say.

In Wisconsin, the issue of globalization was a big issue. Seven out of 10 Democratic voters largely stated that global trade takes jobs away from the state, with less than one of five saying it added jobs. It would appear that Obama and Clinton have to talk about what they would do about trading with other countries, not just about how to improve alliances in the war on terror.

The economy continued to be a big topic in the polls, as the Democratic and Republican voters in Wisconsin were consistent with previous exit polls. For the Democrats, almost half of the exit voters believed the economy was not good, with nearly all the rest stating that it is poor. For the Republican Wisconsin voters, a majority thought the economy was doing poorly or not good, but had slightly higher opinions about it than Democrats.

"Change" has been a big issue for Obama and Clinton, and it continued to be that way in Wisconsin. A majority of Democrats said that they were looking for a candidate that can "bring about needed change." Because this has been such a big part of the Obama campaign, Obama can gain with this issue. For the Republicans, their voters were looking for a candidate that "shares my values." As such, Wisconsin will be another key test as to how well John McCain can do among hard core conservatives who don't think that he shares their values. McCain will likely focus on that in the remaining primaries before the general election.

Is there an online petition to get Clinton to release her tax returns? Anywhere? Her refusal makes it seem as though she is hiding something embarrassing, possibly multiple things. Voters and superdelegates deserve to know NOW if the Clinton tax returns contain scandals that the Republicans can use against her, or scandals that would make even conscientious Democrats withdraw their support. Clinton's refusal to release the returns also raises the specter of yet ANOTHER secretive presidency, where the public's legitimate right-to-know is considered a nuisance to be ignored and squelched. There is no legitimate reason for her to not make her tax returns public. It is both an insult to voters and a gigantic red flag.
